Burges Snail
The surviving house in Knightshayes, Devon, was designed between 1869 and 1874 by the Gothic Revivalist William Burges, who specialized in interior design. An original and incredibly charming wallpaper still decorates the walls of one of the bathrooms. It is believed that the wallpaper was only reinstalled in a later renovation, following a long attempt by subsequent generations of the homeowner to reduce the home's flamboyant Gothic-Victorian style.
