Bamboo floral dining area

This design is based on small painted sections of Chinese wallpaper found on the Kingston Lacy estate in Dorset. Little is known about these fragments and it is unclear whether the pattern was actually used in the house itself. Imported Chinese wallpaper was extremely popular in stately homes in the 19th century, and upholsterers cut out individual elements and placed them side by side on panels to give the wallpaper a panoramic appearance. It is quite possible that the fragments found were left over from this process. This design has been transformed into a repeating pattern for modern interiors.

Ditsy block kitchen

This attractive floral wallpaper was found at Felbrigg Hall in Norfolk and is one of the estate's most interesting wallpapers. The location is curious because the wallpaper comes from an attic that was probably a former staff room - an unusual place to hang artistic wallpaper. The wallpaper was probably made using the wood block printing process and the original features a painted weave at the top of the pattern, reminiscent of damask furniture.

Brodsworth Dining Room

A vibrant, captivating design featuring eye-catching birds and delicate floral motifs. The slightly raised pattern with richly gilded details was originally intended to imitate stamped leather in appearance. Based on early 18th century French fabrics and decor, the wallpaper with fields, scrolls and crosshatching was found at Brodsworth Hall in South Yorkshire. This elegant Victorian mansion was built between 1861 and 1863. It was privately owned until 1990 and served as a residential building. The wallpaper was clearly popular with the family; Unusually, it was used in the opposite color combination in both the library and the breakfast room and can still be seen there today.

Dining room Lansdowne Walk

Lansdowne Walk is an Arts & Crafts motif based on Voysey. He was a leader of the movement and perhaps more famous as an architect than as a wallpaper designer. Although this colorful wallpaper was removed from a 19th century house in Kensington, the actual design dates back to the early 20th century.

Windmill Lane Kitchen

Osterley Park is bounded to the east by Windmill Lane and is one of the largest open spaces in London; in its center lies a magnificent mansion of the same name. The house was originally built in the mid-16th century as the country home of banker Sir Thomas Gresham and was modernized 200 years later under the direction of famous architect Robert Adam. This soft, muted green comes from the main staircase and hallway on the north side and is a testament to his excellent taste and color understanding.

Combined with the color Cordoba 277 the result is a harmonious overall picture.

Dining room Jewel Beetle

Ellen Terry, a famous actress in Shakespeare's plays, was immortalized as Lady Macbeth by John Singer Sargent in an 1889 portrait. In this painting she wears a magnificent green dress with crocheted net, gold embroidery and a thousand iridescent wings of the green jewel beetle, which naturally sheds its wings. The dress is now in the Ellen Terry Museum in Smallhythe Place, the half-timbered house in Kent that she fell in love with and bought in 1899.

Pomegranate - Bazaar Kitchen

This Baroque design is a rare and very early find, discovered by the National Trust among tapestries at Erddig Hall in Wales. It was printed in blocks onto handmade paper panels that were nailed directly to the wall (rather than gluing them); When they were removed, the oldest verified tax stamp was found on the back. The colorful yellow original has been slimmed down into four colorways. Three additional color combinations ensure that this cheerful paisley design can also be used in a variety of ways in modern interiors.

Florette dining room

Featuring a striking, open-hearted design that epitomizes the 1950s, this wallpaper was found in The Architects Book of 100 Wallpapers, published in 1954. The original wallpaper features a series of dandelion line drawings that are almost lost against the informal freehand trellis. The modern interpretation is a little cleaner, with the six subtly differentiated flower heads on a solid color background.

Tea with Florence kitchen

A highlight of Claydon House in Buckinghamshire is the Chinese Room, widely regarded as the finest surviving example of Chinoiserie in Britain. Travel and international trade led to an obsession with Asia in the 18th century and inspired the popular new ritual of tea drinking. For generations, the Verney family used the Chinese Room as a private sitting room and took tea here with their guests, including Florence Nightingale, sister of the 19th century owner Lady Verney. She visited regularly and eventually had some rooms of her own in Claydon House, where she wrote her important work on nursing.
