St James's Park

The lavish damask pattern was discovered at Marlborough House, near St James' Park. This impressive building was designed by Christopher Wren and was once the home of the Duchess of Marlborough, a friend and confidant of Queen Anne. The original wallpaper features a dark blue pattern on a pale blue background and looks very modern, although the general design has its origins in the Victorian era (as wallpaper) and before (as silk fabric). A special feature of this particular interpretation of the pattern is the ombré effect, which is created because the stronger color is applied at the bottom of the wall and the more delicate color is applied above it. This gives the room a feeling of height and brightness that would not be the case with a traditional damask pattern.
