Limewash (lime color)

DESCRIPTION

A water-based protective coating traditionally made from slaked lime, which is particularly suitable for natural building materials and plasters, e.g. lime or clay plaster. Little Greene Limewash is very permeable to water vapor, allowing the wall to breathe optimally, thereby regulating moisture.

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Gloss level matt: (below 6%)
  • Theoretical coverage: 6 sqm / liter (varies depending on surface porosity and structure)
  • Recommended dry layer thickness: 30 micrometers per layer
  • Recommended coats: 4 coats to achieve desired coverage*
  • Hand dry: after 1 hour**
  • Time until repainting: At least 24 hours depending on the room climate
  • Volume solids: approx. 18%
  • Volume Solids: Pastel shades from the Little Greene paint range
  • Available pack sizes: 5 liters

*Colors become significantly lighter within 24 hours and are therefore only approximately the same. The color will be approximately the same and may change from batch to batch.

SURFACES-
PREPARATION

Fresh lime or clay plaster: The surfaces must be clean and free of grease. Brush surfaces to remove loose material and spray or brush with water to reduce absorbency. Efflorescence on masonry should be completely brushed off before application. This product is not suitable for non-porous stone or non-porous masonry such as granite, slate, Fletton brick and clinker.

Existing lime coating: The surfaces must be clean and free of grease. Remove all loose and crumbling lime paint. Loose plaster or mortar should be replaced. Hack out cracks and fill with filler suitable for outdoor use. Surfaces that have become powdery should be brushed and sprayed or brushed with water before application to reduce absorbency.

Areas with mold or algae growth should be treated with an appropriate fungicide or a 25% solution of household bleach, followed by a thorough cleaning to remove debris. Modern plasters should be completely removed before using the product. In general, the substrate must be dry, clean, stable, free of grease and free of contamination and separating substances such as sinter layers,

Resins, waxes, oils, release agents, etc. The substrate or old paint to be coated must be checked for compatibility with the new material. See also VOB, DIN 18363, part C, paragraph 3, painting and varnishing work.

Stir thoroughly before using to ensure any sediment is mixed well. Do not apply if ambient temperature is below 5°C or rain is forecast as the coating is water sensitive until fully cured. Lime paint is best applied fresh and should ideally be used within 14 days of delivery.

APPLICATION

Stir well before use. The product can be applied to slightly damp surfaces, which are then allowed to dry.
Brush: Use a high quality plastic bristle brush of an appropriate size for the project. New brushes should be washed in clean water and dried thoroughly with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Do not immerse the brush too deeply in the paint so that the paint does not get under the clamping ring. Avoid drips and splashes by not picking up too much paint with the brush. Apply paint evenly and only expand the painting area so that areas that are still damp can still be applied. For best results, always apply the final brush strokes in the same direction and never paint over paint that has already begun to dry. Do not apply too thickly as this may result in a weaker coating and fine cracks.

Role: Not recommended.

Spraying: Not recommended.

CLEANUP

The work materials should be cleaned with water immediately after use. Never store brushes and rollers in water as this will deteriorate them
Contract performance leads.

STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE

Store unused paint in a cool, dry, frost-free place and away from direct sunlight. Ensure closures are securely and correctly closed after use. For best results, lime paint should be used within 14 days of delivery. Although the shelf life is significantly longer, if the product is stored for long periods of time, significant differences in color depth and gloss level may result.

AFTERTREATMENT AND CARE

Cleaning and care: If the surface is slightly dirty, rinse with clean water at low pressure. Prune garden plants to provide ventilation between buildings and plants. Care for climbing plants so that leaves do not accumulate. Clean and maintain gutters and downspouts to prevent the paint layer from being permanently exposed to moisture through leaks/overflow.

Special Care: Avoid placing heavy objects on the surface for at least a week after painting. Bookshelves and other surfaces that receive frequent use can be easily treated with beeswax polish to prevent long-term damage.

Repair: Lightly sand the areas to be repainted and apply appropriate primer to exposed surface material. Repaint the area “edge to edge” with one or two coats of paint as needed. Touching up small areas alone almost always results in an unsightly appearance.

DISPOSAL AND RECYCLING

Excess paint may only be disposed of through a certified waste disposal company. Empty metal containers can be recycled (remove plastic handle from 5L containers).

SECURITY

Always read the label on the container before use. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. Lime paint is corrosive and can cause burns to unprotected parts of the body that come into contact with the material. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment. For further information, see the safety data sheet.
