SURFACES-
PREPARATION

New wood: For soft wood, knotholes should be sealed with Little Greene Aluminum Wood Primer to prevent discoloration. Apply a thinned coat of Intelligent ASP to penetrate the substrate, followed by the recommended two coats of Intelligent Floor Paint. Resin-rich hardwood must be cleaned and treated with Little Greene Aluminum Wood Primer (see relevant product data sheet for further information). After the Aluminum Wood Primer you should prime with Little Greene Intelligent ASP. Before application, ensure the moisture content of the wood is below 15%. Damp wood should never be painted as this can cause bubbles, peeling, cracks and premature paint failures. Green oak should only be painted if it has been dried for at least 6 months.

Metals: Ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals should be cleaned manually or mechanically to remove any surface rust prior to applying Little Greene Intelligent ASP and two coats of Intelligent Floor Paint.

Existing paint: Remove all loose and peeling paint. Degrease with a suitable cleaning solution such as lye and then rinse with clean water. Then sand the surface with medium-grit sandpaper until it is grippy, smooth and free of defects, paying particular attention to areas where the paint has been removed. Make repairs, sand and apply sufficient primer to the exposed surface.

Concrete: Brush or vacuum the surface to remove dust. If concrete has been stripped, the surface must be either vacuum blasted or treated with a proprietary acid solution to provide texture prior to painting. Minor surface contamination such as oil stains can be flamed away. Dilute the first coat with about 15% water by volume to allow penetration into the substrate, then apply two regular coats.

Natural stone: Porous stone can be treated like concrete. This product is not recommended for painting directly on non-porous granite masonry.

APPLICATION

Stir thoroughly before use. Do not paint surfaces at temperatures below 8°C.

With the Brush: Use a high quality synthetic bristle brush in an appropriate size for the project. New brushes should be prepared by washing in clean water and carefully drying with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Do not immerse the brush too deeply in the paint so that the paint does not get under the ferrule. Avoid drips and splashes by not picking up too much paint with the brush. Apply the paint in even strokes and only expand the area to be painted so that the edges remain wet at all times. For the best results, make sure that all brush strokes end in the same direction and never paint over paint that has already started to dry.

Spray painting
Conventional
Dilute with up to: 5 – 10% water
Nozzle size: 1.60 to 2.00 mm (62 to 78 mil)*
Air pressure: 0.28 to 0.41 MPa (40 to 60 psi)
Airless
Dilute with up to: 0 – 10% water
Nozzle size: 0.28 to 0.54 mm (11 to 21 mil)*
Pressure at nozzle: 12.6 to 19.6 MPa (1800 to 2800 psi)

With the roller: For best results on smooth surfaces, use a roller with a short-pile wool cover. For structured surfaces, choose a slightly longer pile to ensure an even and thorough application of paint. Make sure to make all roller strokes in the same direction at the end and to always keep the edges moist. Never paint over paint that has already dried, as this will result in unsightly transitions.

NON-SLIP SAFETY

In safety-critical areas such as outdoor stairs, steps and floors that are frequently wet, the addition of an anti-slip additive is important. The additive used should be dry and rounded and the particle size should be between 0.1 and 0.3 mm. The specified dosage provides a medium to strong anti-slip structure. Use LG LS30.

Application method: Add 400 to 1000g/5L of a dry additive and mix thoroughly immediately before use.

CLEANING

Remove excess paint and clean tools with clean water immediately after use. Never store brushes or roller covers in water as this will affect application performance.

STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE

Store unused paint in a cool, dry place away from frost and direct sunlight. Make sure the lid is securely and firmly placed back on the can after use. When unopened, this product is stable for at least two years under the conditions stated above.

CARE

Cleaning: For light soiling, use a diluted, lukewarm dishwashing detergent solution or a non-abrasive floor cleaner and a clean sponge or lint-free cloth. Make sure the sponge or cloth is well moistened (but not soaking wet) and wipe the affected area several times if necessary.

To prevent deposits from forming, always ventilate your home well when doing activities that can lead to the formation of oil or grease films (such as cooking). Ideally, remove dust caused by DIY by collecting or vacuuming it immediately.

To prevent scratches, always use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment on floors and adjacent surfaces.

Special Care: Do not place heavy objects on the surface for at least a week after painting. Avoid polishing floor cleaners as they could result in a dangerously slippery surface.

Repair: Carefully sand the area to be repainted and apply a suitable primer to the exposed surface. Then paint the area from edge to edge in one or two coats. Repairs only to the surface usually lead to unsightly results.

DISPOSAL AND RECYCLING

Dispose of excess or unneeded paint through a licensed waste disposal company. Empty metal containers can be recycled (remove the plastic handle from 2.5L cans).

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Always read the instructions on the can before use. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. Further information can be found on the product safety data sheet. The user and operator must ensure that the painted floor is non-slip under all possible conditions (see “Slip Safety” section).
